Michael Evans

Michael is a litigation lawyer with vast experience in the Courts and Tribunals. He has experience across all disputes ranging from crime, employment, debt recovery, negligence, insurance, personal injury, disputed Estates, tenancy and property. Michael represents all clients including individuals, small businesses, or multibillion dollar listed companies.

Michael also specialises in construction; advising clients on the day to day management of construction, tenders, procurement and projects. He undertakes detailed dispute resolution negotiations including litigation, arbitration and informal and formal mediation. Michael gives contractual advice, and drafts claims and statutory adjudications under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 1999. Michael acts for clients in all commercial and construction disputes, with experience acting for architects, surveyors, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, homeowners, and developers.

Michael is also an IRO approved provider and assists clients in workers compensation and personal injury claims negotiating large settlements or winning disputes in court.

As a skilled disputes advocate, Michael acts in family succession, disputed estates and family provision claims. He acts for executors, beneficiaries and other interested parties.

Before Whiteleys

Before joining Whiteley Ironside & Shillington in 2014, Michael worked for a decade in general litigation in Sydney CBD, at a leading mid-tier national law firm and in-house at a leading international development and construction companies.

He commenced his career at a boutique construction law firm, progressing to an Associate in a leading national litigation practice, specialising in general litigation, Home Owners Warranty insurance, professional indemnity and construction.

Most recently, Michael was In-House Legal Counsel at Baulderstone and Lend Lease Engineering, two of the most pre-eminent, international construction companies. In this capacity, he provided legal advice to the company and the Board spanning vast legal, risk and commercial issues. He advised on construction contracts and negotiations, tender reviews, risk profiles and risk management, corporate governance, commercial legal practice and dispute resolution.

When he’s not at Whiteleys

Michael is a keen couch sportsman for any sport including darts. He is a passionate Wests Tigers supporter, loves cricket, and Orange City Cricket Club. He is foremost a family man, a doting father of three and husband to a woman well above his batting average, which he makes up for by doing most of the cooking.
